Navy nabs person with explosives used for blast fishing

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a person with commercial explosives devised for blast fishing, during a special operation conducted in Muthur, Trincomalee on 07th August 2021.

The Navy has been conducting regular operations to prevent damage to the marine biodiversity by illegal fishing practices such as explosive fishing. In a similar operation conducted by the Eastern Naval Command in coordination with the Muthur Police, the suspect was nabbed with 07 water gel sticks – a commercial explosive often used for blast fishing, 03 non-electric detonators and 03 safety fuses (each about 3m in length).

The accused was identified as a resident of Kattaparichchan area, aged 38. Meanwhile, the onward investigation into the incident is being carried out by the Muthur Police.
