Two persons with a suspicious craft apprehended by Navy

SL Navy apprehended two persons with a suspicious craft during a search operation conducted in the sea area off Nagarkovil, at night on 22^nd July 2020.

In order to prevent smuggling and illegal fishing activities, Navy is conducting constant search operations. As such extension, a troop of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command had spotted a suspicious dinghy and a patrol craft of the Navy was deployed to search it. while on Navy’s search attempt, the persons on the dinghy had tried to escape. Foiling their attempt, the Navy managed to apprehend the dinghy with the two persons aboard.

By further search to the dinghy, a stock of fishing gear, few jewellery items weighing around 54.380g which was concealed secretly and cash worth about Rs.30000.00, were recovered. Accordingly, the two suspects were apprehended with the recovered items and the dinghy.

The suspects are residents of Maradakeni North, aged 26 and 41. Apprehended suspects along with the items were handed over to Palai Police for further investigation.
