‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’ opened in Welisara

Having named after the newly constructed Navy sporting facility as ‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’, it was declared open under the patronage of Commander of the Navy and President Navy Sports Board, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of beloved wife of late Commander Parakrama Samaraweera, Mrs. Sudarshani Samaraweera at Welisara Naval Complex today (23rd June 2021).

“100 years of international cooperation in hydrography” - Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service celebrates World Hydrographic Day

A need for a navigational chart aroused as man started to navigate through waters and the importance of hydrography came into play since then. Hydrography involves a process, from collecting data in the field to the preparation of the chart in accordance with the highest international standards and contributes immensely to the economic development of a country. The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), which has 94 member countries including Sri Lanka, coordinates hydrographic activities worldwide through 15 Regional Hydrographic Commissions (RHCs). The IHO was founded in Monaco on 21st June 1921.

SLN and JMSDF conduct passage exercise off Colombo

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training ships ‘KASHIMA’ and ‘SETOYUKI’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit on 18th June 2021, conducted a passage exercise (PASSEX) with Sri Lanka Navy, as they departed from the port of Colombo today (20th June).

Navy hands over CG 405 to Coast Guard after major refit

After a major refit, Sri Lanka Navy handed over the Fast Patrol Boat - CG 405 back to Sri Lanka Coast Guard, in an event held under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera on 16th June 2021.

Rear Admiral Upul De Silva assumed duties as Commandant Volunteer Naval Force at the Volunteer Naval Force Headquarters today (14th June 2021). Subsequent to the assumption of duties, he also called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters.

Boossa COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre receives medical and essential supplies

Leesons Hospital and Dialog Axiata PLC partnering with Manusath Derana charity initiative handed over a stock of medical supplies, beds and other essentials, needed to the Navy-managed COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre in Boossa, to Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage, at the Command Headquarters on 04th and 11th June 2021.

A project kicks off to culture artificial reef in Northern waters

The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources with the assistance of Navy today (11th June 2021) launched a project to culture artificial reef off the Delft Island. Through this project, it is expected to enhance biodiversity in the coastal waters off the islands in Jaffna peninsula.

Commander of the Navy appreciates contribution of ICGS ‘Samudra Prahari’, ‘Vajra’ and ‘Vaibhav’

Appreciative of the praiseworthy contribution made by Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) ‘Samudra Prahari’, ‘Vajra’ and ‘Vaibhav’ during damage control operation in collaboration with other stakeholders, following MV X-PRESS PEARL caught fire off Colombo harbour on 20th May 2021, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presented Letters of Appreciation to the Commanding Officers of those ships in a simple ceremony at the port of Colombo today (10th June 2021).
