US Nimitz Carrier Strike Group arrives at the port of Colombo
 

The United States’ Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, which comprises the oldest American aircraft carrier in active service, USS Nimitz, the cruiser USS Princeton, and destroyers USS Howard, USS Shoup, USS Pinckney, and USS Kidd, arrived at the port of Colombo today (28 October 2017).

Navy apprehends 5 Indian fishermen for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters
 

Naval personnel onboard Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol, apprehended 05 Indian fishermen along with their fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters about 16.7 nautical miles north of the Kovilam Light House yesterday (26th October 2017).

His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, has been pleased to appointVice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and promote him to the 3-star rank of Vice Admiral with effect from 26 October 2017.
