The Navy managed to apprehend 04 suspects possessed illegal drugs, during two separate search operations conducted in Middeniya and Unalla in Godagama on 25th and 27th June 2020.

Another 02 naval personnel discharged from hospitals following full recovery from COVID – 19, taking total recoveries to 823
Another 02 naval personnel who had contracted COVID-19 and underwent treatment in hospitals, were discharged from them after gaining full recovery from the virus, confirmed by PCR tests, on 27th June 2020.

In line with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed rehabilitation centre for drug addicts was held under the patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne on 26th June 2020. The occasion was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

Navy averts smuggling attempt, for the first time seizes stock of beedi smuggled by sea
During a special search operation conducted in northern sea area, the Navy managed to apprehend 02 persons attempting to smuggle 295kg (in wet weight) of tobacco products (beedi) in the wee hours on 26th June 2020.

The Navy apprehended 18 persons along with 04 dinghies for engaging in fishing using unauthorized nets, during 03 separate search operations in Eastern seas on 23rd and 25th June 2020. Accordingly, the accused were held in the sea areas off Foul Point – Trincomalee and Kokkuthuduwai – Mullaitivu.
