Navy apprehends 2 persons with 6.94 kgs of gold worth Rs. 34.5 million

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 2 persons, in Madugal area Jaffna, while attempting to smuggle 6.94 kgs of gold worth Rs. 34.5 million by a fishing boat. The suspects were on an attempt to transfer the stock of gold by means of a dinghy in disguise pretending they were fishermen.

Navy divers attached to the South-Eastern Naval Command recovered two dead bodies of a man and woman drowned in Kottukalli waters Ampara, yesterday morning (5).

Twenty-nine Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrested 29 Indian fishermen along with one Indian fishing trawler with 9 fishermen North of Thalai-mannar and 3 Indian fishing dhows and 20 Indian fishermen North-west of Kudiremalai Point, poaching in Sri Lankan waters on 5th March 2016.

Navy apprehends 17 illegal migrants heading to Australia
 

The naval crew onboard ship SLNS Samudura, apprehended 17 Sri Lankans who were on an attempt to heading towards Australia on 5th March 2016 at 2.30 am in the seas 40 NMs off the Galle lighthouse.

Interest-free loans granted to 45 senior sailors
 

Under the visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, the 3rd phase of granting interest free loans, worth Rs. 500,000/= each, was held at the Welisara Naval Complex under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Yamuna Wijegunaratne on 4th March 2016.

Naval troops attached to SLNS Therapuththa in Mannar, apprehended 3 Sri Lankan fishermen along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy while engaging in illegal fishing in the waters of Silawathura on 2nd March 2016.

Navy arrests 7 fishermen engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba arrested 7 fishermen, along with 2 Fiber Glass Dinghies, 12 oxygen cylinders, 3 diving masks, 3 pairs of diving fins and 3 fishing nets (Athangu), at restricted area off Pigeon Island Sanctuary in Nilaweli.

Russian Rescue Vessel “Epron”, arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 03rd March 2016. The ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions on her arrival.
