First (01st) Training Squadron of Indian Navy departs the island after successful bilateral naval exercise

The training ships of the 01st Training Squadron of the Indian Navy; INS ‘Shardul’, ‘Magar’, ‘Sujata’, ‘Sudarshini’, ‘Tarangini’ and ICGS ‘Vikram’ which arrived in Sri Lanka for a bilateral naval exercise on 28th October 2021, departed the island on 27th and 28th October 2021, on successful completion of naval exercises held in Colombo and Trincomalee.

Poppy flower pinned on Commander of the Navy to commemorate Remembrance Day

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA), Major General (Retd) Upul Perera pinned a poppy flower on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (28th October 2021). To coincide with the Remembrance Day that recollects the memories of fallen War Heroes in the month of November, the poppy flower campaign is launched.

New Surfing Club opens at Panama beach

The new Surfing Club established at Panama beach by the Navy was declared open by Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Gamage on 25th October 2021.

Sri Lanka Navy takes delivery of Ex-USCGC Douglas Munro

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) formally took the delivery of the EX-United States Coast Guard Cutter, USCGC Douglas Munro, provided by the United States to SLN, in a ceremony held at the U.S. Coast Guard Base Seattle of Washington in the United States on 26th October 2021. On behalf of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the event was attended by Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne. As such, the ship formally joined the SLN fleet from 26th October 2021 under the pennant number P 627 and the main mast of the ship will fly the National Flag effective from the very date.

Navy’s 880th Reverse Osmosis Plant declared open at Bogaswewa Maha Vidyalaya, Vavuniya

Another Reverse Osmosis plant installed as part of Naval Social Responsibility initiatives at the Bogaswewa Maha Vidyalaya, Vavuniya was declared open by Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathne today (25th October 2021).

The Flag Officer Commanding - in – Chief Southern Naval Command Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla who is on an official visit to Sri Lanka met with Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (25th October 2021).

SLNS ‘Samudura’ takes part in naval exercise with HMS ‘Kent’

Her Majesty's Ship (HMS) ‘Kent’ – a Type 23 Frigate serves in the Royal Navy arrived at the port of Colombo on 23rd October 2021 for replenishment. The visiting frigate engaged in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Sri Lanka Navy off Colombo and left the island on 24th October 2021.

01st Training Squadron of Indian Navy arrives in Colombo and Trincomalee for bilateral naval exercise

The training ships of the 01st Training Squadron of the Indian Navy arrived in Sri Lanka for a bilateral naval exercise today (24th October 2021). Accordingly, Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Shardul’ and ‘Magar’ arrived at the Colombo harbour whereas INS ‘Sujata’, ‘Sudarshini’, ‘Tarangini’ and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) ‘Vikram’ called at the port of Trincomalee. Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the visiting ships in compliance with naval traditions. In parallel, Flag Officer Commander - in – Chief Southern Naval Command Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla also arrived in Sri Lanka on an official visit.
