National War Heroes’ Day commemoration held under the auspices of His Excellency the President in Battaramulla
The National War Heroes’ Day commemoration which was held under the auspices of Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla today (19th May 2021). The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.
The National War Heroes’ Day commemoration ceremony in the year 2021 was organized by the Rana Viru Seva Authority (RVSA). The solemn event held adhering to COVID-19 protocols was attended by Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, former President, Members of Parliament, Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda, Governor Western Province & Marshal of the Air Force, Roshan Goonetileke, Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army, Commander of the Air Force, distinguished guests and a limited group of invitees including the family members of fallen war veterans and next of kin of service personnel went missing in action.
As the highlight of today’s event, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa paid floral tribute to the National War Heroes’ Monument commemorating all patriotic war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice as well as went missing in action, to usher much anticipated freedom to the nation by eradicating the brutal terrorism.
The gesture was followed suit as Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, former President, Hon. Maithreepala Sirisena, Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda, Governor Western Province & Marshal of the Air Force, Roshan Goonetileke, Secretary of Defence, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Inspector General of Police CD Wickramarathna, Chairperson, Ranaviru Seva Authority, distinguished guests and near and dear ones of war veterans offered floral tribute to the monument.
