Commander of the Navy pays floral tribute to fallen war heroes at Arali Point

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne paid floral tribute to the legendary war veterans including the late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, Major General Wijaya Wimalarathne and then Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, who made supreme sacrifice for motherland, at the special war heroes’ memorial at Araly Point on 27th September 2020.

Late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, who is regarded as one of the best war veterans of Sri Lanka Army, along with 10 of the finest war heroes from armed forces namely; Major General Wijaya Wimalarathne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Lieutenant Colonel HR Stephen, Lieutenant Colonel GH Ariyarathne, Lieutenant Colonel YN Palipana, Lieutenant Colonel Nalin de Alwis, Lieutenant Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lieutenant Commander Chandima Wijayapura and Private WJ Wickremasinghe victimized to an LTTE attack at the Arali Point on 08th August 1992, while they were advancing by a jeep in the area on a military assignment.

Recalling the memories of these true sons of the nation, Commander of the Navy made floral tribute at the memorial site at Araly Point. The occasion was also attended by Commander Northern Naval Area and a group of senior officers attached to the Northern Naval Command.
