Two persons engaged in illegal fishing apprehended by Navy

Navy nabbed two (02) persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the seas off Batticoloa on 30^th December 2019.

During an operation conducted to seize the illegal fishers a suspicious dinghy was spotted by the Navy in the seas off Batticoloa and it was searched. By further inquiry, the dinghy was found unregistered and they didn’t bear a valid pass for fishing too.Accordinghy, two persons and the dinghy were apprehended.

An outboard motor (OBM), a fishing net and 40 kg of illegally caught fish were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of singarathoppu and Eraur areas aged 35 and 41.

The suspects together with the seized dinghy, OBM, stock of illegally caught fish and fishing gears were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries (ADF) in Batticoloa for onward action.
