Person apprehended with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate

A suspect with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate was apprehended during a raid conducted by the Navy in coordination with Police at Galmaduwa area in Mahailukpallama, on 30^th December 2019.

Navy with the assistance of Police STF in Settikulam carried out a raid at Galmaduwa area in Mailukpallama and found 610 packets (61kg) of chemical which contained banned agrochemical glyphosate. The packets of glyphosate had been on sale at a retail shop and the shop owner was apprehended accordingly.

The suspect is a resident of the same area aged 42. The accused along with the packets of banned chemical was handed over to the Department of Agriculture, Thabuththegama for onward action.
