Navy holds seven persons engaged in illegal fishing

Seven (07) persons who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Ambalangoda were apprehended by the Navy in coordination with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, on 28th December 2019.

During an operation carried out by the Navy in coordination with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in seas off Ambalangoda, to avert the destruction of marine resources caused by the illegal means of fishing, four dingies which engaged in illegal fishing using lights, were spotted. Seven persons who were aboard these dingies were held by Navy.

The suspects have been identified as the residents of Ambalangoda area. Four dinghies, 04 OBMs, 04 LED lights and 13 batteries used by them were also taken into Naval custody.

Further investigation on the apprehended suspects and the items are conducted by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
