SLNS ‘Sayurala’ arrives the island on completion of successful tour

Sri Lanka Naval Ship ‘Sayurala’ which left for Pakistan from the Colombo harbour on last 02nd February to take part in the Naval Exercise AMAN 2019, the biennial exercise hosted by the Pakistan Navy, on successful completion of her Naval exercise, arrived the island today (28th February). On arrival, she was welcomed in compliance with naval traditions.

The multilateral naval exercise AMAN 2019 was held in Karachi, Pakistan from 08th to 14th February. The purpose of the exercise is to promote cooperation and interoperability between the regional navies through training and cooperation in the maritime region. Further, common forum for information sharing, mutual understanding and identifying areas of common interests, techniques and procedures against asymmetric and traditional threats at sea, search and rescue missions and humanitarian operations were rehearsed during the exercise. This premier exercise promotes greater level of military cooperation and understanding amongst navies and enhances the security and surveillance of our maritime zone.

Navies of 44 countries including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Nigeria, Philippine, Qatar and Russia with a large number of ships and air craft participated in the Exercise AMAN 2019.

After completion of the naval exercise AMAN-2019, SLNS ‘Sayurala’ participated in the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX)-2019 which commenced in Abu Dhabi on 17th February.

The preliminary objective of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference is to establish a unique platform and strengthen relationships with armed forces throughout the region. The latest technology across land, sea and air sectors of defence was demonstrated at the exhibition.
