Commander of the Navy attends Council International Du Sports Military Day Run - 2018
 

The International Du Sports Military Day Run - 2018 was started at Galle Face Green, Colombo, today (18 February).The Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne PC attended the occasion as the chief guest.

Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathna, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathi, Senior Officers of Tri Forces, many other ranks representing Tri Forces and a number of disabled war heroes also attended the event.

This CISM Day Run organized in view of achieving world peace by united militaries through sports, was started from the Galle Face Green and ended up at Defence Services College, Colombo. Subsequently, all the participants were awarded certificates.

International Military Sports Council was inaugurated on 18 February 1948 and this is one of the world's biggest organizations. At present Tri Forces members of 135 countries have obtained its membership and accordingly Sri Lanka obtained the membership in 1986. Sports tournaments are organized by continental level in every four years during the seasons of winter and autumn by the IMSC and military personnel take part them representing respective member countries.
