Navy pledges its commitment for nation building being united under one flag

Commencing the proceedings of the Year 2017 on an auspicious note, Naval personnel pledged their commitment for the process of nation building being united under one flag. They made this pledge when they took the oath of allegiance to public service on 02nd January 2017, the first working day of the year, at a ceremony presided over by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters.

Addressing the Naval personnel, the Commander of the Navy wished all a happy and prosperous new year and commended the service they had rendered in the past year fulfilling the country’s aspirations. Quoting a saying of Lord Buddha, he also emphasised the way of performing one’s duty and importance of performing the same with honour and dignity. Moreover, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne expressed that we all should fulfil our duties with true sense of responsibility, efficiency and effectiveness in order to achieve the development and prosperity of the motherland. Also he expressed his anticipation in obtaining the fullest cooperation of all naval personnel to reach the said goals.

The occasion was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and Commandant of the Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro, Director Generals, senior officers, sailors and a large number of civil employees of the Navy.

Oath/ Affirmation of the Public Service

Today, the first working day year 2017,

marks the commencement of a new year of which the Democratic Socialist Republic of

Sri Lanka makes the expectations of people of the country a reality

I, an employee paid by the public do hereby swear/ affirm to perform each and every way

the role entrusted to me in the implementation of public policies and goals,



with firm determination,

and utmost dedication,


and with loyalty to the public,

with a view to meet the challenges of developing the motherland which flourishes as one country, one nation under one flag with unity and harmony and to alleviate poverty in year 2017 through an accelerated development which ensure benefits to every citizen and also to create a well secured future for the Sri Lankans and future generation.
