Navy takes hold of Kerala cannabis worth approx. Rs. 14 million in Vankalai, Mannar

Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 47kg and 100g (with wet weight) of Kerala cannabis, during a special foot patrol conducted in Vankalai beach area, Mannar this morning (15th September 2021).

Incidentally, a special foot patrol conducted by Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Pussadewa in the North Central Naval Command in the beach area of Vankalai this morning (15th September) made way for the recovery of this stock of Kerala cannabis weighing about 47kg and 100g with wet weight. The consignment was in 20 packages which were believed to have been left behind at the beach by smugglers due to naval operations in the area.

Meanwhile, the street value of the haul of Kerala cannabis is believed to be approx. Rs. 14 million.

The operation was carried out in compliance with COVID-19 protocols in force, to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Further, the consignment of Kerala cannabis will be set on fire and destroyed, under the supervision of the North Central Naval Command.
