Navy brings ashore another critically ill fisherman for treatment

Sri Lanka Navy brought ashore another critically ill fisherman and rushed him to hospital for treatment today (07^th June 2021). The fisherman who was aboard a fishing trawler in seas about 85 nautical miles (about 157 km) southwest of Beruwala, had suddenly fallen ill and was in critical condition.

The trawler ‘Deshi’ was on a fishing voyage from the Beruwala fisheries harbour on 01^st June 2021 with 06 fishermen. Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, has disseminated the distress to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo at Navy Headquarters, about this fisherman who was aboard above trawler and in need of medical attention.

In response to a request for assistance, Sri Lanka Navy sent out SLNS ‘Sayura’ to fetch the ill fisherman for treatment. Having retrieved him from the fishing trawler he was brought to the seas off Galle, administering first aid. Thereupon, the patient was transferred to an SLN Fast Attack Craft and brought to Galle harbour before he was rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital for further treatment.

Besides, the Navy stays prepared to respond to eventualities of this nature, with a view to assist naval and fishing community in distress in Sri Lanka’s Search and Rescue Region.
