Sudden fire erupted in fishing trawler at Dikkowita harbour smothered, averting severe destruction

Sri Lanka Navy’s Fire Fighting Unit sprang into action to douse a fire that suddenly broke out in a multi-day fishing trawler at the Dikkowita fishery harbour today (29th March 2021).

Responding to a distress alert disseminated by the Coast Guard Station Dikkowita, the Command Operations Room (West) promptly dispatched 02 Navy firefighting teams along with 02 fire engines to the location to extinguish the flames that were engulfing ‘Lanka Matha’ (IMUL-A 0691- CHW) – a multi-day fishing trawler at the Dikkovita fisheries harbour.

The combined effort of the Navy firefighters, Colombo Municipal Council Fire Service Department, personnel of Coast Guard Station Dikkowita and a group of people from Dikkowita fishery harbour managed to smother the blaze and prevent the hazard spreading to nearby vessels.

Further, 07 individuals injured by the flames were also rushed to hospitals for treatment with the assistance of Coast Guard Station Dikkowita.
