Navy assists apprehension of 06 suspects with Ice, heroin and Kerala cannabis

Sri Lanka Navy managed to apprehend 06 suspects with Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice), heroin and Kerala cannabis, during special operations conducted in North Central and Eastern Naval Commands during the past couple of days.

Accordingly, North Central Naval Command in coordination with the Mannar Police nabbed 03 suspects with 49g and 490mg of Crystal Methamphetamine and 02g and 440mg of heroin made ready to be sold. The apprehension was made during a combined search carried out in Karisal, Mannar on 18th November 2020. In another search conducted in Erukkulampiddi on 16th November, the Navy was able to recover about 01kg and 941g of Kerala cannabis in 02 plastic bottles, hidden in bushes in a deserted place of the area.

Elsewhere at 04th Mile Post, Trincomalee, Eastern Naval Command and STF Sardhapura collared 02 individuals with 500g of Kerala cannabis made ready to be sold, during a search carried out on 10th November. Meanwhile, another suspect (01) was held with 100g of Kerala cannabis in his possession, during a search operation conducted at Trincomalee, Sirimapura on 14th November. The suspect had kept the substance in his possession with the intention of selling.

The accused held during these separate operations were residents of Mannar, Madurankuliya, Trincomalee and China Bay, from 18 to 44 years of age. Meanwhile, the suspects together with narcotic substances were handed over to the Police stations of Mannar, uppuweli and Trincomalee for onward legal action. All these operations were carried out adhering to preventive measures stipulated for COVID – 19 pandemic.
