Navy assists apprehension of 06 suspects with illegal drugs

The Navy in coordination with Police nabbed 06 suspects in possession of heroin and local cannabis, during special operations conducted in Northern, North Central and Southern Naval Commands from 10^th to 13^th October 2020.

A search operation carried out in the Nagarkovil area, Jaffna by Northern Naval Command led to the apprehension of a suspect with 01g and 15mg of heroin. In the same vein, the North Central Naval Command with the Police Division Vice Branch Mannar nabbed 03 suspects in possession of 790mg of heroin at Uppukulam in Mannar.

Meanwhile, the Southern Naval Command and the Ambalantota Police STF had apprehended a person with 820g of local cannabis, during a coordinated operation conducted at Uvakudaoya in Thanamalwila. Based on a tip-off received from the suspect, the security personnel also managed to arrest another individual for possession of 850g of local cannabis, in Meegaswewa area.

The apprehended persons are residents of Erukkulampiddi, Uvakudaoya and Meegaswewa areas, from 36 to 53 years of age. Meanwhile, the apprehended individuals along with narcotic substances were handed over to the Palai, Mannar and Thanamalwila Police stations for onward legal action.
