Two (02) locally made guns and suspect held with Navy’s assistance

The Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Police STF managed to seize 02 locally made guns and apprehend a suspect (01), during search operations conducted in Naruvilikkulam, Mannar and Kirinda on 08^th and 09^th October 2020.

Accordingly, a search operation carried out by the North Central Naval Command in Naruvilikkulam area had led to the recovery of a shotgun hidden in a nearby thicket. In another operation conducted in Kirinda, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Police STF – Katharagama apprehended a 43 year old suspect from the same locality, with an unlicenced locally made gun.

Meanwhile, the shotgun recovered from the Naruvilikkulam area was handed over to the Parayanakulam Police STF and the suspect held with the illegal firearm in Kirinda was produced to the Kirinda Police for onward legal action.
