The Navy which is constantly on the lookout for illegal activities that could disrupt law and order in the island apprehended a suspect for illegal possession of a 12 bore shotgun, on 14^th August 2020.

The arrest was made by naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command with the assistance of Ambalantota STF, during a coordinated operation conducted in Mahahebilla of Gonnoruwa in Hambantota.

The 41 year old accused has been identified as a resident of the same area. Meanwhile, the suspect together with the shotgun was handed over to the Hambantota Police for onward legal action.
