Navy assists apprehension of 04 persons with narcotics

As an extension of its regular anti-drug operations being carried out in view of creating a drug-free society, the Navy rendered assistance for apprehension of 04 suspects with narcotic substances in Ambalantota, Palaitivu Island and Periyakarsal areas in the past few days.

During a coordinated operation conducted with the Police STF in Ambalantota area, naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command had apprehended a suspect who was transferring 7.03 g of heroin, concealed in a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, naval personnel of the Northern Naval Command, during a foot patrol on the Palaitivu Island, found 300mg of heroin and 920mg of drug strain known to be Kerala cannabis in a suspicious dinghy. Two suspects in connection to the incident were also collared along with the dinghy and its fishing gear.

In another coordinated operation conducted in Periyakarsal, Mannar naval personnel belonging to the North Central Command and Police STF had held another suspect in possession of 350g of drugs strain known to be Kerala cannabis.

The apprehended suspects, whom were identified as residents of Ambalantota, Guranagar and Periyakarsal areas, are from 24 to 33 years of age. The accused along with narcotic substances and rest of the items were handed over to the Ambalantota, Poonarin and Mannar Police stations respectively for onward legal action.
