Navy assists to remove the sea glider equipment located at sea for collecting Oceanographic data

SL Navy assisted to the officials of the National Aquatic Resources Development and Research Agency, to remove two sea gliders used for collecting Oceanographic data, for the purpose of repairing these equipment, on 30th January 2020.

Sea gliders are used to collect oceanographic data, Environmental analysis, Research into climatic changes and collect information of Fisheries research. These two equipment, located in the seas 20 nautical miles off Galle lighthouse, were removed by the Navy with the participation of officials of the National Aquatic Resources Development and Research Agency and an American scientist. Removed gliders were transferred to the SLNS Dakshina jetty by a Fast Attack Craft.

Navy's assistance extended under the directives of Commander Southern Naval Area was praised by the Officials of NARA and the American scientist. SL Navy is prepared to assist the public and organizations at their hours of need.
