All-night ‘Pirith’ chanting and alms-giving held in Welisara to coincide with the 69th anniversary celebrations of Navy

An all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting and offering of alms were held at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 29th and 30th November to coincide with the 69th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Pirith Chanting and alms giving, in view of the 69th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy which will be celebrated on the 09th December, was graced by the Commander of the Navy who respectfully brought the casket housing the relic, in a colourful procession comprised of dancers of the Navy cultural troupe. On completion of the all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting, alms and ‘Pirikara’ were offered to the Maha Sangha the following day (30th November) where an ‘Anusasana’ was delivered and blessings were invoked on fallen and injured war heroes, the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel in the organization.

This meritorious occasion was also attended by the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Arundathi Udithamala Jayaneththi, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugethanna, a large number of senior and junior officers attached to the Naval Headquarters and the Western Naval Command, sailors and members of the naval families.
