Two newly constructed houses bestowed upon naval war heroes
 

Two new houses constructed under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project and the ‘Weera Sebala Foundation’ of the Ministry of Defence bestowed upon a sailor who died while performing naval duties and another differently abled naval war hero at Upuldeniya in Galenbindunuwewa and Pamunawatta, Kolonna in Rathnapura on 25th October 2018.

Accordingly, the Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera handed over the ownership of the new house constructed at Upuldeniya in Galenbindunuwewa to the wife of late Leading Diver KAC Kumara who died while performing naval duties. The funds for the construction of the house have been contributed by the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project (Rs. 750,000.00) and Sri Lanka Navy Welfare Fund (Rs. 1,089,464.00).The occasion was also attended by the Commanding Officer SLNS Mahanaga, Captain Nishantha Ranaweera and residents of the area.

Leading Diver KAC Kumara who was attached to the Naval Detachment Oluvil of SLNS Mahanaga died whilst engaging in clearance operation diving duties at the Sluice Gate in Nagadeepa Tank, Mahiyangana on 07th April 2017.

Meanwhile, the new house constructed utilizing Rs. 1,200,000.00 provided by the ‘Weera Sebala Foundation’ and under the directives of the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera was handed over to differently abled naval war hero, Able Seaman RGK Wickramasinghe by the Commanding Officer SLNS Ruhuna, Captain Thushara Karunathunga at Pamunuwatta, Kolonna. The construction work of the house had been completed utilizing naval manpower. A large number of naval personnel and residents were also present on this occasion.

Able Seaman RGK Wickramasinghe had been attached to SLNS Wijayaba and was in active service, before becoming differently abled due to a terrorist attack on 23rd February 1999.
