USS “Anchorage” departs the island on completion of a successful training tour
 

United States Naval Ship “Anchorage” which arrived at the port of Trincomalee on last 24th Aug. for a training tour, departed the island on 28th August on completion of a successful tour. Sri Lanka Navy made customary farewell to the departing ship, in compliance with naval traditions.

The crew of the ship which was on a four day training tour, conducted a joint training exercise with the Naval personnel of Marine Force of Sri Lanka Navy at the Marine Force Headquarters in Sampoor, on 25th August. During the exercise, number of training activities including guard the convey, Urban operations and shooting were rehearsed. The founder of the Marine Force, present Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne also attended this occasion.

Further, the crew of “Anchorage” carried out a joint sea training exercise with the sailors of Special Boat Squadron and it gave an ample opportunity for SL Naval personnel to gain a wide spectrum of Knowledge on Navigation exercises. A special training session on fire fighting and disaster management was also conducted onboard USS “Anchorage” with the participation of large number of SL navy personnel, on 26th August. Naval personnel were able to gain new knowledge and experiences through these exercises. During their stay in the island, the crew of the US ship participated in friendly Volleyball and Football matches organized by the SL Navy in paralleled to her tour and visited some places of religious and cultural interest.

Moreover, while her departure USS “Anchorage” joined with Sri Lanka Naval Ship “Suranimala” for a combined exercise. During the exercise, towing a distressed ship and replenishment at sea were rehearsed and with the termination of the exercise USS “Anchorage” set sail for her motherland.
