Commander of the Navy unveils War Heroes Memorial at Gampaha
 

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne unveiled the War Heroes Memorial erected by the Ex-Servicemen Association of the Navy-Gampaha District Chapter at the Gampaha-Ja Ela flyover roundabout today (13) August 2017.

The Commander of the Navy also paid floral tribute at the newly-built memorial, saluting the extraordinary bravery of the true sons of the soil, who fought with unwavering commitment. Two-minute silence was also observed in honour of the heroic personnel who laid down their precious lives for the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland.

Former Commander of the Navy Admiral Cecil Tissera (retd), Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe, Director Generals of the Navy, members of the Ex-Servicemen Association of the Navy-Gampaha District Chapter, senior officers of the Navy, Gampaha District Secretary Mr.Sunil Jayalath, Assistant Superintendent of Police Srilal Perera and the close relatives of the war heroes were also present on the occasion to pay their respect to the heroic personnel, whose noble sacrifices paved the way for lasting peace we all enjoy today.
