War Hero’s family receives house under ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project
 

A new house built under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ housing project for heroic security forces personnel was handed over to the wife of the late naval war hero Lieutenant Udaya Owitigala by Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe today (11th August 2017).

The house, equipped with all amenities, was constructed by the civil engineering personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy at Baduragoda in Veyangoda. The Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, Director Naval Welfare, Commodore Nilantha Heenatigala and several senior naval officers were also present at the occasion.

The Late Lieutenant Udaya Owitigala had been enlisted in the 13th intake in the Sri Lanka Navy on 07th May 1985 as a cadet officer. He sacrificed his life for the defence of the motherland during an enemy confrontation while serving onboard Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sagarawardana in 1995.
