Two Reverse Osmosis plants bestowed upon community

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service projects, going by the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded has been recognized as one of the many magnanimous projects undertaken by the Navy. Accordingly, two more RO plants set up at Horowpothana Swarnathilakaramaya in Anuradhapura and Rathimalgahawewa Handagala Raja Maha Viharaya in Kebithigollewa were bestowed upon the community today (30).

The facility installed at Swarnathilakaramaya is capable of producing safe drinking water for 360 families in the area, meanwhile the RO system set up at Handagala Raja Maha Viharaya can quench the thirst of 480 families residing in the area. The financial assistance for the 2 RO systems was made by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana.

The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit has been extremely influential in producing these RO systems utilizing their expertise and technological know-how and has successfully installed a total of 119 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 53,650 families and 45,100 school children with safe drinking water provided free of charge. Further, the Navy is determined and will continue to set up more RO plants in due course.
